NJUPT Appointed Professor Su Zhongqing from Hong Kong Polytechnic University as Visiting Professor

On the morning of April 20, the ceremony of hiring Prof. Su Zhongqing, the lifetime professor and deputy director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Hong Kong Polytechnic University as visiting professor in NJUPT was held in Conference Room 319 of the building of the School of Automation. In the ceremony, Vice President Wang Guoping issued the appointment letter of visiting professor and wore the school crest of NJUPT for Professor Su Zhongqing.

In his speech, Vice President Wang Guoping expressed his warm welcome to Prof. Su’s visiting and joining in NJUPT. He hoped that through academic exchanges and cooperation, Prof. Su will bring the fine ethos, teaching style, and style of study of Hong Kong Polytechnic University to NJUPT to help further widen the research vision of research team and to further accelerate the construction of disciplines such as instrument science & technology and control science & technology in the School of Automation of NJUPT, promoting the overall level and the development ofdisciplines.

Prof. Su reviewed his experience of cooperation with relevant research teams of the School of Automation of NJUPT over the past 7 years and the ongoing collaborative research work. He was honored to join NJUPT and was very willing to make his own efforts in scientific research, exchange of young teachers, personnel training, etc., developing together with the School ofAutomation.

After the ceremony, Prof. Su delivered an academic report entitled “Breaking through Bottlenecks of Guided-Ultrasonic-Wave-based Structural Health Monitoring: from Linear to Nonlinear, from Distributed to Dispersed Sensing”at NJUPT.

Speaker’s Profile:

Dr. Su Zhongqing is a professor and deputy director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests include structural health monitoring, nondestructive testing, ultrasonic, sensor and sensor networking technologies, and smart materials and structures. He received a bachelor's and master's degree in aeronautics from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and then obtained his Ph.D. from the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the University of Sydney under the full scholarship of the Australian Government. From 2005 to 2006, he studied as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Sydney under the auspices of the Australian Federal Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. In 2007, he worked at Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an assistant professor. In 2011, he was promoted to the associate professor (tenured) under the university's fast-track promotion scheme for outstanding faculty and finally became a full professor in 2016. In the past few years, Prof. Su has published over 230 English scientific and technical articles, including more than 130 high-level SCI journal articles and two monographs. As of the beginning of 2018, the published articles have received more than 5,000 references (the current H-index is 38). In recent years, as the main applicant, he has applied for a number of projects such as the Hong Kong Basic Research Fund, the Hong Kong Innovation Technology Fund and the National Natural Science Fund. The total amount of funding has exceeded 12 million yuan. Currently, Prof. Su serves as the associate editor of seven authoritative journals in the field of structural health monitoring, including UltrasonicsandJournal of Sound and Vibrationunder Elsevier,Structural Health Monitoring: An International Journal published by SAGE, Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnostics and Prognostics of Engineering Systems by ASME, Prognostics of Engineering Systems, Structural Monitoring and Maintenance: An International Journal and Structural Engineering and Mechanics: An International Journal, and the guest editor of two international SCI journals. In 2010, he was elected as a member of the European Structural Health Monitoring Committee and a member of the Asia-Pacific Structural Health Monitoring Executive Committee. In 2011, he was awarded the Principal Special Achievement Award (Research Category) by Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and in 2012 won the Structural Health Monitoring - Person of the Year (SHM-POY) Award.In 2015, he won the EU Scientific and Technological Innovation Award and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Scientific Research in Institutions of Higher Education by Ministry of Education in 2015. He is the chairman of the 7th Asia-Pacific International Conference on Structural Health Monitoring in 2018.
