NJUPT scientific and technological achievements win 10 Science and Technology Award of China Communication Society in 2023

  On November 30, 2023, the award ceremony of Science and Technology Award of China Communication Society was held in Shanghai. A total of 79 awards were given, including 1 grand prize, 19 first prizes, 28 second prizes and 31 third prizes.

  A total of 10 scientific and technological achievements of NJUPT won the Science and Technology Award of China Communications Society in 2023, including 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 6 third prizes. As the lead completion unit, Prof. Zhao Haitao's team and Prof. Zou Yulong's team won the first prize, creating a new breakthrough in the history of this kind of scientific and technological awards.

  We continue to explore new paths to deepen the management policy reform of scientific research teams, empowering leading talents to organize their own teams and build scientific research and innovation consortiums, realizing key core technology research through the synergy of talents, disciplines and scientific research within the university, as well as the synergy with sister colleges and universities, scientific research institutes, and industrial enterprises, and continuing to improve the cultivation and incubation of landmark achievements. Focusing on the research fields of the university's superior disciplines, we will concentrate our efforts on cultivating a batch of scientific and technological achievements with high degree of display and strong competitiveness. Strengthen the whole process of award declaration service tracking and management, actively organize senior industry experts outside the university, and strengthen the quality control of high-level scientific research achievement award declaration. After peer review, selection within the university, quality first, recommend the best, and effectively promote the university's high level of scientific and technological self-reliance and self-reliance in new development and continuous breakthroughs.

  Brief Description of the First Prize-winning Results

  Intelligent Edge Network Technology and Scalable Applications

  In response to the significant challenge of traditional communication networks being static, rigid, and limited in their capabilities, unable to reliably ensure the diverse and ubiquitous industrial service demands, this project has constructed an intelligent edge service network technology system. It has overcome the technical bottlenecks in intelligent edge processing, on-demand access assurance, and resource coordination adaptation. The project developed the first domestically usable intelligent edge network system, with some indicators leading internationally, thereby filling the domestic void. Independently developing 5G industrial modules and distributed operating systems, the project broke through industrial chain bottlenecks. It holds 101 authorized invention patents, including 16 international invention patents, and has submitted 47 standards and proposals to international standardization organizations like 3GPP, leading in the international standard formulation for 5G private networks. The project's flagship devices have accumulated shipments exceeding 1.2 million units, with over 2 million shipments of distributed operating systems. They have been deployed on a large scale by over 100 operators worldwide, accumulating revenues exceeding 4.4 billion yuan. The related products have been applied in industrial manufacturing, urban governance, intelligent transportation, and have contributed to projects like the Foshan Industrial Manufacturing Cluster, the benchmark for urban governance in Shenzhen's Nanshan Smart City, the Jiangsu 5G Vehicle-Road Cooperative C-V2X Pilot Zone, and the all-new smart factory fully connected with 5G in Jingzhou Midea, all receiving high praise from national leaders. The project's products have received ten major international and domestic awards, including the “Best Edge Computing” award at the 2020 5G-World Summit and the “Oscar-level” Best Fixed Broadband Access award at the 2020 BBWF, making outstanding contributions to the construction of a strong network country.

   Collaborative Perception, Sharing, and Transmission Security Mechanism of Dynamic Spectrum

The continuously evolving wireless mobile communication networks have a continually increasing demand for electromagnetic spectrum. However, the supply of non-renewable spectrum resources is extremely limited. Dynamic spectrum sharing, by allowing multiple heterogeneous wireless networks to share spectrum resources, is expected to enhance spectrum utilization efficiency. Yet, this may lead to potential spectrum collision interference and transmission security issues. To address this, the project team researched the collaborative perception, sharing, and transmission security mechanism of dynamic spectrum. It focused on exploring the selective opportunistic relaying mechanism based on collaborative spectrum sensing, discovering the physical layer saturation effect limiting spectrum-sharing interference. It revealed a quantitative compromise between spectrum-sharing transmission security and capacity, solving the joint optimization challenge of efficient and secure dynamic spectrum sharing communication. Eight representative papers from this project were published in authoritative journals such as Proceedings of the IEEE, garnering 1445 citations in the Web of Science (WOS) core collection, with the highest individual paper receiving 682 citations in the WOS core collection. These papers received citations and public recognition from scholars, including academicians from multiple national academies of sciences and engineering, both domestically and internationally, generating a wide positive academic impact. This significantly advanced the scientific frontier of spectrum sharing communication research. Furthermore, some research outcomes from this project were applied and promoted in the 5G dynamic spectrum sharing system, providing robust support for the smooth evolution of 5G networks.
